Approximately 6% of the general population suffers from a severe mental illness, but the proportion is much higher when talking about the homeless population... Between 20% and 25% of all homeless people suffer from a severe mental illness. In addition to this, 35% of all homeless people have, or have had, a substance abuse problem, with 80% of them experiencing lifelong alcohol or drug problems.
Our goal is to deliver 1 pair of socks for every homeless person in Washington, DC and parts of Northern, VA (i.e. a total of 10,000 pairs of socks). We need your help!
