Computer Drive For Homeless

DESCRIPTION

Do you have an old laptop or tablet that you no longer use? Don't throw it away! Instead, please donate it to us. We will refurbish the computers, wipe the hard drives, and donate them to someone in need!

Barbera Foundation has partnered with a local non-profit called Cornerstones (https://www.cornerstonesva.org/about-us/), whose mission is to promote self-sufficiency by providing support for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services. Cornerstones works with individuals and families that are transitioning out of homelessness and who are in need of subsidized housing. In addition to providing food and shelter, they also support families and children in career advancement/education assistance by providing them with laptop computers. 

Donations of laptop computers can help people advance their careers and education. In addition, these computers allow children to more effectively do their homework, stay ahead in class, and ultimately achieve their full potential. 

So bottom line, if you have an old laptop that is collecting dust and not being used, it can definitely help get someone out of a difficult financial situation. Donate it!

LOGISTICS

This is a donation drop off event. In other words, I will be with my car at a park in Reston, VA collecting donations of used and/or new laptops. There are no other volunteering tasks needed aside from dropping off your donations of laptop computers. 

Laptops only - We will be accepting only laptop computers! 

Age Restrictions - No age restrictions. Bring the kids with you!

Volunteer Hours - Please send me an e-mail at kevin@barberafoundation.org and I'll sign off on the hours electronically. 

Ticket sales - Please purchase a ticket for each computer that you will be donating. Each ticket is $1. In addition, this registration process can be used by others who do not have a laptop to donate, but would like to contribute money to the cause. Simply purchase as many $1 tickets as you would like (i.e. If you want to donate $50, purchase 50 tickets). Ticket sales will go towards covering the cost of repairing the computers, replacing chargers, cables, and potentially buying new Chromebooks if we get enough donations. 

Location - Event will be held in Reston, VA. The specific location will be provided updon RSVP.
